Nature Journaling-Drawing to Learn
We have the good fortune to belong to a Study Group mentored by Dotty Widmann with the Netloft in Cordova Alaska. (If you don't belong to a study group we suggest searching the Internet for one or checking with your local library or just start one of your own.) Dotty sometimes has guest speakers visit our group. On March 1st of 2021 Kristin Link was our guest speaker. Kristin led us through a sketch of an ice crystal and she talked about her life as a science illustrator. At the end of her talk, she suggested a book called "Nature Journaling for a Wild Life" by Roseann Beggy Hanson as a guide for beginning Nature Journalers. We ordered our books directly from Roseann from her website (link below) and that's when our journey as nature journalers began.
Nature Journaling for a Wild Life is an" Eight week guided course" with blank pages in the back of the book for you to learn and begin the practice of nature journaling while you read. Each weeks' assignment builds on the prior week adding new techniques and ideas for gathering data. Also, Roseann lists practical advice about putting together a nature journaling kit.
We do other watercolor/sketching sorts of projects but our main obsession is nature journaling. We have found our niche.
